Bucks County will accept applications next week for the second round of grants from its $30 million Bucks Back to Work Small Business Grant Program.

Applications will only be accepted between 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, and 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. Digital applications are preferred, but paper applications will be accepted from businesses that show a need for one.

Funded by federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act dollars, the program is designed to assist small businesses in the county that have been adversely affected by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

"With this new round of grants, the Bucks County Commissioners aim to expand economic support to our vital small business community as they navigate this pandemic," said Commissioner Bob Harvie. "These grants are part of a broader County effort to keep residents, workers and visitors healthy, and keep our small businesses secure."

Billed in May as a $6 million effort, the Commissioners earmarked additional CARES money for the program after assessing the need in the county’s small business community.

The initiative distributed more than $14 million to some 900 small businesses during the first round of payouts in June and July, and is expected to allocate some $15 million more in the coming weeks.

Eligibility requirements from the spring also have been modified to include a more expansive list of businesses, including franchises and affiliated businesses. With these less restrictive requirements in place, the county estimates more than two-thirds of local businesses may now qualify for relief under the program, up from 30 percent in the previous round.

To qualify, applicants must be for-profit businesses operating in Bucks County under the same owner since at least 2018 with an annual gross revenue of $2 million or less. Primary headquarters and operations must be physically located in Bucks County.

Non-profits and passive businesses, such as landlords, are not eligible.

Grant funds can be used to cover payroll expenses, business rent or mortgage payments, COVID-19 related unemployment insurance costs and other operational expenses.
