Assistant County Solicitor











This is a full-time position for an attorney who is committed to serving the public in a fast-paced environment that encourages and rewards teamwork, creative thinking, and sound judgment. 


All Assistant County Solicitors are required to adhere to a high level of effectiveness, efficiency and ethical fitness.  The County Code provides that Assistant County Solicitors perform such duties in connection with the legal affairs of the County as may be assigned to them by the County Commissioners or the County Solicitor.  Specific duties and responsibilities are therefore assigned to each attorney by the County Solicitor.  The specific portfolio of responsibilities of an Assistant County Solicitor could include any of the following:

  • Proposes, researches, and drafts documents relating to affirmative litigation, County ordinances, and other proactive measures designed to protect the County and its residents from fraud, false claims, and other unfair trade practices.
  • Defends the County in civil actions brought in state or federal court at the trial and appellate levels.
  • Reviews contracts, purchasing materials, and other business documents relating to the County’s business with outside vendors.
  • Provides advice to, develops subject matter expertise for, and represents in court/administrative hearings County Departments in the Housing and Human Services (Area Agency on Agency, Children & Youth, et al.) or Health Services (Health Department and Neshaminy Manor) Divisions.
  • Attends meetings for the Bucks County Planning Commission and provides the BCPC advice on subjects including, but not limited to: Subdivision and Land Development Ordinances and Process; Zoning Ordinances and Process; County and Municipal Comprehensive Planning; Open Space Preservation; Stormwater Management Planning; Transportation Planning; the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (Act 247); The Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537); the Pennsylvania Land Recycling Act (Act 2), and; the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act (Act 101).
  • Litigates, manages, and efficiently resolves workers’ compensation claims brought by current or former employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the County Solicitor or the First Assistant County Solicitor.

  • Be currently and continually licensed to practice law before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to learn new areas of the law.
  • Sound judgment

The following is a non-exhaustive list of experiences that would assist in carrying out the essential functions and responsibilities of the position. 

  • Substantial experience or training in public law, zoning/planning, human services, workers compensation, business law, litigation, or legislation.
  • Appellate/federal judicial clerkship.
  • Experience advocating for diverse communities.
