Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court of Bucks County Announces Online Marriage Applications and Additional Hours in Lower Bucks

September 4, 2015

A message from the Bucks County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court...

DOYLESTOWN, PA – Don Petrille, Bucks County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court announced two office improvements that will increase accessibility and convenience for customers.  The first improvement is the launch of online marriage license applications.  The second is the expansion of hours at the Lower Bucks County satellite office.

Register of Wills/Clerk of the Orphans' Court Don Petrille helps a couple using the new Online Marriage License Application system.“We are excited that couples will be able to apply for their marriage license anywhere they have access to the internet by going to www.buckscounty.org/MarriageApp.” stated Petrille.  “This way, they can take their time and find the answers to family history questions that stump some of our customers before making the trip to our office.”

After they submit the application, couples will still be required to appear at the Clerk of the Orphans’ Court office in Doylestown or Levittown.

“The marriage law still requires a personal appearance before a deputy to verify vital record documentation and to confirm applicants’ identity.  The online application will result in short wait times, and additional staff productivity,” explained Petrille.

The online marriage application is the part of an overall modernization effort in the office.  Additional online applications are planned for later this year.  Earlier this spring, the office launched an improved online access system to images of its probate and court documents.

Secondly, Petrille announced that beginning September 8, 2015, office hours will expand to five (5) days a week at the Lower Bucks satellite office on New Falls Road in Levittown.  Currently, the office processes marriage licenses and basic probate documents in Levittown on two full days, and two half days.  The added hours will not require any additional staff or expense.

“It is often a burden for our Lower Bucks residents to travel to Doylestown for basic services.  We’re giving residents a chance to save time, money and fuel by sticking close to home.”

Appointments are encouraged in the Lower Bucks office, because of limited staffing.  “We are expanding services without expanding staff.  We usually only have one person available, and she works very hard to satisfy the increasing volume in this office,” Petrille noted.

The office of Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans Court is responsible for admitting wills to probate, appointing administrators of intestate estates, collecting inheritance taxes on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, issuing marriage licenses and processing filings involving estate disputes, incapacitated persons and adoptions which are heard before the Orphans’ Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas.  Don Petrille has served in the office since 2012.
