Bucks County to Cease Morrisville Senior Center Operations

August 25, 2015

The Morrisville Senior Center, which has leased its current facility at 31 E. Cleveland Ave. from the County of Bucks for more than two decades, recently was evaluated by the County General Services division for interior and exterior damage caused by flooding during heavy storms. The resulting storm damage has made the building uninhabitable at times while also creating safety related concerns about its use.

During this recent structural analysis, the County of Bucks and its General Services division discovered multiple issues that would have to be addressed in order to make the building habitable and safe for its use. Further, County officials determined that the cost of the required structural remedies would be prohibitive.

After consideration of the available options for the Morrisville Senior Center, the County and its Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has decided to terminate its lease with the Center on December 31, 2015. As of January 1, 2016, the County will no longer fund the operations of the Morrisville Senior Center.

The approximately 30 active members of the Morrisville Senior Center will have multiple options for the future provision of services. The Area Agency on Aging will begin work immediately to facilitate those services at neighboring senior centers, including County facilities in Falls Township and Middletown Township. It is the County’s intention to work closely with consumers to assure alternate appropriate senior services and programs are in place and accessible.

In addition, Bucks County officials will work to assure notifications are sent to affected consumers, regulatory authorities and local legislators concerning this matter. The County will continue providing for uninterrupted home delivered and congregate meal service and develop plans for assisting with shared ride transportation arrangements to other local senior centers.

Requests for additional information should be directed to the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging at 267-880-5700.
