County of Bucks to Assist With Electronic Recycling Collection Event Sat., March 28 in Bristol Township

March 12, 2015

The County of Bucks will join the Bristol Township School District’s F.D.R. Middle School Service Learning Team to conduct an electronic collection event on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School, 1001 Veterans Highway, Bristol, PA 19007.

E-Waste Experts, Inc. is a state permitted and fully licensed, bonded and insured e-waste company that will handle the electronics that are recycled. The company focuses on data security and green initiatives.

Due to a combination of factors, the County of Bucks and neighboring southeastern Pennsylvania counties are unable to hold their annual electronic collection events this year. A change in the laws regulating electronic disposal, the inability to secure a qualified contractor, the lack of recycling processors for older tube televisions, and a drop in the scrap value of electronic components have all contributed to ending the collection program this year. The County is pleased to be able to offer this collection event for residents through a partnership with the F.D.R. Middle School and E-Waste Experts, Inc.

All computers, and other household electronics, contain hazardous materials. Lead, mercury and zinc are just a few examples. These materials are toxic, and exposure to hazardous chemical compounds places people and the environment at risk for serious health problems now and will impact future generations. Anyone who discards e-waste improperly or places the items in the regular trash is breaking the law.

Cell phones, computers, laptops, televisions, radios, wires, cables, CDs, video games, and other household electronics WILL be accepted. Items with Freon (air conditioners, refrigerators) are among the items that CANNOT be accepted. No other household hazardous waste will be accepted.

The program is for residents only; no material will be accepted from businesses, industry or institutions. For questions about this event, please contact Art Feltes, recycling coordinator for the County of Bucks, at 215-345-3400.
