Effective today, March 26, Bucks County Bridge No. 293 is closed to traffic in order to perform emergency repairs necessitated by a recent inspection. Bridge No. 293 carries Gravel Hill Rd. over Mill Creek in Upper Southampton Township. The bridge is a single-lane, two-span closed spandrel stone arch structure that was originally constructed in 1860.
Due to severe weather related deterioration of the structure’s spandrel walls, the County decided following the emergency inspection to close the bridge. The County General Services department is in the process of evaluating the structure to determine the necessary scope of repairs. The County’s Emergency Services department has notified first responders of the closure. A full detour route has been presented to PennDOT and will be implemented after approval by the state transportation agency.
Bridge No. 293 is one of 115 owned and maintained by the County of Bucks.
