House Resolution No. 493 was recently passed by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to designate Friday, November 1, 2013 as “Veterans, Record Your Discharge Day,” encouraging all veterans and their families to record veterans’ release or discharge documents with their respective county Recorder of Deeds office. As a benefit of recording records of discharge with the Recorder of Deeds office, veterans are entitled to receive a free identification card for the Veterans ID Discount Card Program, which can be used to receive special discounts at local Bucks County businesses.
To that end, Bucks County Recorder of Deeds staff will be on hand that same day at Team Toyota, located at 746 East Lincoln Highway in Langhorne, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to issue cards. A special ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., when county officials will be presented with a citation from the House of Representatives for the success of the Veterans ID Discount Card Program and its positive impact on Bucks County’s veterans.
Interested veterans must bring their original DD-214 form in order for staff members to proceed with issuing the cards, in addition to having the discharge document recorded with the office. Veterans are also reminded they can visit the Recorder of Deeds office at the Bucks County Courthouse (55 East Court Street, 2nd Floor, Doylestown) Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to receive a card. Information about the program is available by calling 215-348-6209.
To date, over 1,000 Bucks County businesses have agreed to offer substantial veterans discounts (5-20 percent on merchandise and services) to those holding the Bucks County Veterans ID card, and more are signing up to participate each day. To register a business to participate in the Veterans ID Discount Card Program, please call the county Recorder of Deeds office at 215-348-6017 or visit www.BucksCounty.org to fill out a form stating intent to take part. A list of participating businesses is available on the official county website as well.
