Bucks County Commissioners Join Law Enforcement Officials to Illuminate “Project Blue Light”

Commissioner Loughery standing in front of Project Blue Light wreath. On Thursday, December 6, Bucks County Commissioners Robert G. Loughery, chairman, and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, LCSW joined county employees, elected officials, Bucks County police chiefs and representatives from the Bucks County Sheriff’s and Security departments to pay tribute to the county’s fallen public-safety heroes. For the fourth year in a row, the Courthouse rotunda is the setting for the Project Blue Light Memorial Wreath. The wreath is illuminated with blue lights and adorned with 12 white ornaments to symbolize the 12 Bucks County law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty since 1914.

Commissioner Loughery and Lower Southampton Police Chief William Wiegman, representing the Bucks County Police Chiefs Association, reflected upon the importance of honoring not only those members of our law enforcement community who paid the ultimate sacrifice but also current officers who are sacrificing time with their loved ones to protect Bucks County residents during the holiday season.  Upon reading the honor roll of wreath honorees, they were joined by Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia to flip the switch to illuminate the six-foot wreath, overlooking the Memorial Courtyard.

Project Blue Light, a nationwide recognition that began in 1988 by Dolly Craig of Philadelphia to memorialize her fallen son-in-law, encourages individuals to include a blue light in their holiday decorations to remember law enforcement officials who have given their lives in the performance of their duties.  It also honors the men and women who continue to work in law enforcement, putting their lives on the lines every day.
