Bucks County Dow Chemical Fire Status Update
Please see the Release "Bucks County Dow Chemical Fire Status Update 2" for the latest information. Thank you
Early this morning, lightning struck two tanks at Dow Chemical Company in Bristol Borough resulting in a fire and chemical vapors being released into the air. While the fire has been contained, the vapors from the two chemicals Ethyl Acrylate and Butyl Acrylate, remain an irritant in the air. Cleanup is underway, and the air will continue to clear.
As of 10:30 am, Bucks County Emergency Management and the Bucks County Health Department are advising residents that the chemicals have the potential to cause minor throat or eye irritation, headaches and nausea. These symptoms will lessen as the air clears.
All area residents are advised to shelter in place-stay indoors and close windows until the vapors in the air dissipates. If you have a respiratory condition, such as asthma or COPD/Emphysema, and you experience respiratory distress, you are advised to seek medical attention.
The three Lower Bucks Hospitals have reported no increase in Emergency room visits or patient admittance. The County will continue to provide updates as they become available.
