Commissioners Join County Business Development Office to Present Contractor Registration Workshops
Effective July 1, 2009, a new Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law mandates that all home improvement contractors and home improvement businesses performing over $5,000 in work annually must obtain a Contractor Registration Number. In conjunction with state legislators from the local delegation, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office, the Bucks County Community & Business Development office and the county’s three major chambers of commerce, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners will host three upcoming workshops to explain compliance with the law.
The first workshop is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at the Doylestown Branch of the Bucks County Free Library (150 South Pine St.). That session will be co-sponsored by Pennsylvania Rep. Marguerite Quinn and the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce (CBCC).
“We are pleased to offer the local business community this opportunity to learn about some important changes in the home improvement arena,” Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin noted. “These workshops will offer a one-stop shopping approach to the law.”
In addition to the $5,000 stipulation, the new legislation requires all jobs over $500 to have a written contract issued. Workshop participants will learn how to apply for a contractor registration number, as well as how to comply with the insurance, advertising and contract requirements.
