Bucks County Building Provided for Regional Police Training
Government Services Center, closed to public in September, is site for tactical training.
As part of ongoing public safety initiatives, the Bucks County Commissioners authorized the use of the empty Upper Bucks Government Services Center in Richland Township as a training site for the Central Bucks Special Response Team (CB-SRT). County offices, including the Health Dept., Adult Probation and Public Information, moved to a new building at 261 California Road, Quakertown, in October 2008.
The CB-SRT uses the empty rooms and corridors for emergency response training, including emergency entry and exit, search and rescue, and reconnaissance scout training. This multi-jurisdictional tactical maneuver training is crucial for preparedness in responding to high-risk incidents in central and upper Bucks County.
“Through the work of Pete McElroy, the county asset manager, all county properties and assets are being evaluated for potential usage,” said Commissioner Chairman Charles Martin, “We are pleased to be able to offer this facility as a tool in the county’s police training efforts.” The county plans to sell the building, located on Rt. 309 in Quakertown.
CB-SRT is comprised of 18 municipal and regional police departments. The SRT members are highly trained officers in the areas of tactics, weapons and special incident response.
