National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
Bucks County Health Dept. Presents Educational Program in Bristol
The Bucks County Health Department joined with several community partners for a program on National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Approximately 25 people attended the program, which was held at the community center of the Venice Ashby neighborhood in Bristol. The co-sponsoring agencies included the Bucks County NAACP, Family Service Association, Planned Parenthood, and FACT (Fighting AIDS Continuously Together). Joining with the Health Department, they have formed BC-PUSH (Bucks County Partners United for Sexual Health).
The event included a movie titled "One Week" which depicts a couple planning to marry in one week and getting the news that they are at risk for HIV due to past exposure. A discussion group followed with topics including: how HIV is spread, receiving a diagnosis of HIV, the difference between being infected with HIV and actually having AIDS, and how to communicate to significant others about the disease.
