Bucks County Board of Elections Approves Four Redistricting and Realignment Proposals
Voter Convenience Changes Pending for Buckingham Upper 3, Hilltown Twp. Blooming Glen 2, New Britain Twp. South 1 & 2 and Plumstead Twp. 2 & 3

During an August 13 afternoon meeting of the Bucks County Board of Elections at Doylestown Library’s Pearl S. Buck Room, board members Charles H. Martin, chair, James F. Cawley, Esq., and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia voted to redistrict three Bucks County precincts and realign one other.

“These proposed changes are to improve the flow of voter traffic (in anticipation of high turnout for the November 4, 2008 General Election),” county Board of Elections Director Deena K. Dean told Martin, Cawley, Ellis-Marseglia and a couple dozen concerned citizen attendees.

Two of the votes – to split Hilltown Twp. Blooming Glen 2 (which currently has 2,853 registered voters) into Blooming Glen 2 (proposed 1,488 voters) and Blooming Glen 3 (proposed 1,365 voters) and realign New Britain South 1 and 2 (currently 2,037 and 999 voters, respectively) into more even districts (proposed 1,600 and 1,436, respectively) – were sent to the court system for approval by a unanimous 3-0 vote.

Two others, the redistricting of Buckingham Twp. Upper 3 (currently 2,937) into two districts, Buckingham Twp. Upper 3 (1,370) and Buckingham Twp. Upper 4 (1,567) and the redistricting of Plumstead Twp. 2 (currently 2,422 voters) and Plumstead Twp. 3 (currently 2,551) into Plumstead Twp. 2 (1,651 voters), Plumstead Twp. 3 (1,700) and Plumstead Twp. 5 (1,586), were approved by a 2-1 vote – with Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia casting the dissenting voice.

The Board of Elections also unanimously approved three municipal referendum questions, including the Bristol Twp. Government Study Commission Referendum, the Morrisville Borough Ambulance and Rescue Squad Tax Referendum, and the Newtown Twp. Open Space Referendum.
