Commissioners to Open Three Bucks Senior Centers This Weekend
Weekend Temperatures Expected to Exceed 90 Degrees
The Board of Bucks County Commissioners reminds seniors that extreme hot weather can cause serious heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Though everyone should take precautions, seniors are especially vulnerable to effects from the heat. The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging advises that the best precaution during a heat wave is to remain indoors with an air-conditioner or in a ventilated room with a fan. Unless restricted, drink plenty of water and/or non-alcoholic beverages to prevent dehydration.
The public is encouraged to check in on elderly neighbors, friends and family members. If you or someone you know are experiencing symptoms such as faintness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating, etc., CONSULT A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.
Also, fans may be available through the Area Agency on Aging for senior residents of Bucks County (age 60+) who do not have a fan or air conditioner. The elderly may call 215-348-0510 for help during this period of extreme heat.
Commissioner Chairman James F. Cawley encourages seniors to visit one of the county’s senior community centers this weekend. “Our senior centers are a welcoming respite for those who want to get out of the heat and enjoy some socialization and activity.”
