With Gas Prices Soaring, Commissioners Encourage Families to Rediscover Bucks County

With fewer families expected to travel this summer, many might be wondering how to spend their time locally.  Bucks County Commissioner Chairman Jim Cawley encourages Bucks Countians to explore in their own backyard. “There are so many treasures right here in Bucks County,” he points out.  “If you’ve always wanted to visit a particular place, now is the time to discover it.  If you’ve already been somewhere you loved, now is the time to revisit it.”

The county Parks and Recreation Department operates 22 parks – some with boat rentals, two pools, a golf course, two tennis centers, a horse park, an airport, several historic properties, and three nature centers.

Parks and Recreation Director Bill Mitchell offers some suggested destinations where the summer can be enjoyed right here in Bucks County:

  • Play a round of golf at the county’s 9-hole Oxford Valley Golf Course in Fairless Hills
  • Rent rowboats, canoes, paddleboats, kayaks and even sail boats at Peace Valley Park in New Britain
  • Tour the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, a National Historic Landmark and working history museum located in Doylestown
  • Rent a pavilion and have a family picnic at any of the county parks
  • Bring your horse to the Bucks County Horse Park in Revere, where Mondays are Bucks County resident discount day
  • Serve up a tennis game at Core Creek or Frosty Hollow tennis centers, in Langhorne and Levittown respectively
  • Camp in tents at Lake Towhee, Tinicum or Tohickon Valley parks, or in a cabin at Tohickon Valley Park
  • Partake in the mystery at Ringing Rocks Park, a boulder field filled with rocks that when struck, ring like a bell. Take in the scenery of Bucks County’s largest waterfall as your backdrop in Upper Black Eddy.
