Envirothon combines in-class curriculum and outdoor training helping students to learn more about aquatic ecology, forestry, soil & land use, wildlife, and current environmental issues. This year’s topic was “Recreational Impacts to the Environment.”

Eleven teams competed, answering written questions at each station and identifying items on display relating to the five categories. In the end, Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia announced the following winners:

1st Place    Neshaminy High School
2nd Place   Central Bucks High School East
3rd Place   Neshaminy High School

The commissioner also spoke to the students about Bucks County’s recent membership as a “Cool County.”  Bucks is now the first county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to commit to the Sierra Club’s Cool Counties Initiative and pledges to reduce global warming emissions 80 percent by 2050.
