Bucks County Emergency Management Agency Reports Revised Flood Projections

The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) advises Delaware River-area residents that the National Weather Service has revised this weekend’s flood projections.

The most current forecasts project that the Delaware River will crest at the flood stage of 22 feet at 7 a.m., Sunday, March 9, at Riegelsville. By way of comparison, yesterday’s projections had the river cresting at 24 feet, two feet above flood stage.

In Trenton, the Delaware River is expected to crest at 19.5 feet at 1 p.m. Sunday, half a foot below the 20-feet flood stage. Yesterday, the National Weather service reported that the river would reach one foot above flood stage.  The Neshaminy Creek is still projected to reach flood stage.

Bucks County EMA officials will continue to monitor the effects of the rain, and remain in close contact with all affected municipalities for the duration of the storm.

Looking Ahead
Yesterday, Commissioner Chairman Jim Cawley sent a letter to Governor Rendell on behalf of him and his fellow commissioners, Charles H. Martin and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, taking the governor up on an offer to meet with local officials and residents to discuss the role of the commonwealth in decisions on managing the Delaware River, and reducing future flood damages. The commissioners are optimistic that the governor will respond quickly to the call for a meeting.
