Pesky Gnats To Be Sprayed Along the Delaware River
The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will use
a low-flying helicopter to spray black fly (gnats) larvae along the
Delaware River, beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. in Riegelsville.
The Bucks County Department of Health said the helicopter will dump Vectobac,
12AS, a biological larvicide, perpendicular to the river on sites where the
black flies breed. Once the project is completed in Bucks County, DEP plans
to continue west to treat the Schuykill River in Berks and Schuykill counties.
The one-day program begins in Riegelsville, Durham Township, and ends at Yardley
on the Delaware, June 23.
The four scheduled Bucks County landing sites are: Riegelsville, Erwinna/Delaware
Valley Fire Co., Tinicum Twp., New Hope/Eagle Fire Co., and the Slack Road
Farm, Upper Makefield.
