Part of Bucks County Opportunity Council’s free tax preparation program is an online filing program called My Free Taxes. Anybody can file their federal and state tax return online for free if they earned less than $57,000 last year. Visit the following website: www.myfreetaxes.com/bcoc.
Core Program
Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) Program
- Goal of the programs is to increase income through employment
to be able to be economically independent and get off of all government
subsidies
- Long term assistance and intervention to help families achieve
self-sufficiency
- Goals set in ten dimensions: income, employment, education, transportation,
parenting/social, substance abuse, mental health, health insurance,
shelter, and nutrition
- Individualized and specialized
- Self-Sufficiency Specialists and clients work together to develop
action steps and goal plans
- Five year participation
- Voluntary
Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)
- Offered in collaboration with the Bucks County Housing Authority
- Designed for clients who have and use a section 8 certificate
- Goal of the program is to increase income through employment
to be able to get off of subsidized housing
- Clients begin an escrow account which can be used towards the
purchase of a home
- The more income a client makes, the more money is saved in escrow
- Client has up to five years to complete the program
