Rabies Prevention

The Department follows up and investigates reported animal bites
(mammals), requires confinement of animals as needed, and coordinates
rabies analysis for potential rabid animals where human exposure
has occurred.
The Department also a) coordinates intervention measures to minimize
the spread of wild animal rabies to domestic animals, b) serves as
liaison within the County, the veterinary medical communities, the
SPCA, the PA Game Commission, the PA Dept. of Agriculture Dog Law
Enforecement Agent, local animal control officers and other agencies,
and the public and c) arranges for animal specimen testing for cases
of human exposure at the PA Dept. of Health Laboratory in Lionville,

The Department cooperates in an effective education program to sensitize
the County. The Department has available a wide variety of information,
handouts and posters for the prevention of rabies.
