SUMMARY: Patrols an area on an assigned shift to safeguard buildings, materials and equipment against fire, trespass, theft and other hazards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Safeguards public property, including office and institutional buildings by making rounds inside and outside buildings and other county installations.
  • Makes certain that lights and water are turned off as required, that doors and gates are properly locked and reports need for maintenance as required.
  • Directs visitors to proper offices and admits and permits authorized personnel to enter and leave premises.
  • Completes minimal clerical work and answers phones.
  • Directs traffic and patrols parking lots.
  • Makes citizens arrests and detains individuals.
  • Issues traffic tickets as required.
  • Provides emergency aid as required.
  • Obeys all safety rules and regulations.
  • Reports unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor.
  • Performs similar or related duties as required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year police or security guard experience or retired military service.
  • Must possess Act 235 (Weapons Handling).
  • Must be in continued good condition, both physically and mentally and capable of working shift work.
  • Mature and courteous manner is essential.
  • Must be familiar with use of Force Continuum.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Equivalent training/experience/education will be taken into consideration.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical fitness test.
