Emergency Health Services
Emergency Health Services, in cooperation with the Division of Emergency
Health Services of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, coordinates
all aspects of the pre-hospital setting. This involves training of
personnel, quality assurance to the patients, data collection, documenting
pre-hospital emergencies, and licensing of the County's emergency
squads.
The training courses we offer include:
- Fire Responder
- Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT)
- Emergency Medical Technician-Transitional
- Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (PM)
- Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC)
- Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Course
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Re-certification for First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians,
and Paramedics involves completing continuing education courses to
attain credits toward re-certification. The local emergency squads
and hospitals offer the continuing education courses, but the courses
are registered through our office. We provide an ongoing list of
these courses.
Continuous Quality Improvement in Bucks County includes the County
Quality Improvement Coordinator, the County Continuous Quality Improvement
Committee comprised of DEM physicians, DEM RN's and Paramedics, and
squad Quality Assurance Committees. Our system follows the Bucks
County Emergency Services EMS Quality Assurance Operational Plan.
Licensing involves applying to the Pennsylvania Department of Health
for approval to operate an ambulance service in Pennsylvania. Each
ambulance service is inspected every three (3) years. This inspection
includes checking personnel records for up-to-date certifications,
assuring that patient information is locked and kept confidential,
and examine each ambulance for proper and sufficient equipment and
supplies, and to assure that all equipment is operational.
