Commissioner Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia was elected to the Bucks County Board of Commissioners in November 2007, and re-elected for a second term in 2011. She is a lifelong resident of Bucks County, raised in Lower Makefield, and graduated by Pennsbury High School. A resident of Middletown Township, the Commissioner served her community on both the Neshaminy School Board and the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors. As a Supervisor, she worked to preserve land & historic structures, and developed innovative programs that were funded without taxes.
Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia, a clinical social worker, previously worked with children and families in Bucks County and advocates for responsive government that supports healthy families. She has served as chairperson of the Youth Aid Panel, coordinator of the Teen Task Force, member of the Neshaminy Suicide Task Force, and now serves on CONTACT Board of Directors.
Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia presents an aggressive agenda for continually improving county services provided to children, families, and the elderly. She is focused on creating safe communities and firmly believes that quality mental health and drug and alcohol intervention can truly help people change their lives. Recognized as a fiscal watchdog, Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia works to assure taxpayers that their dollars are spent on achievable, visible results.
In her three years as County Commissioner, Ellis-Marseglia has taken a lead role in the commitment to dredge the Delaware River Basin so that redevelopment can occur, established a volunteer-based Code Blue plan, and created alternatives to out-of-county foster care. Recognizing the need for public discussion and sharing of information, Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia facilitated a state hearing on Bucks County foster care, called for public testimony on maintaining a local mental health crisis center, and hosted seminars on animal hoarding interventions and diversity awareness.
She has also worked to make county government more transparent through new requirements such as applications for boards and commissions, limited assignment of county vehicles, job postings for all open positions, early display of meeting agendas, and bi-partisan selection of Election Day machine inspectors. She had led the charge for open government in Middletown by implementing the televising of public meetings, something she hopes to bring to county government as well.
Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware, (Sociology, Criminal Justice), and earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She is the mother of two children, Rebecca (deceased) and Katelyn, 21.
