Summary:
There are two levels of clerical position within the BCAPPD-clerk
typist and secretary.
A secretary performs various secretarial duties including, but
not limited to, transcribing, typing, and filing.
In the BCAPPD secretaries fill very important, often sensitive
positions in that they frequently come into contact, not only with
probation officers, but also clients, victims, police officers,
judges, and the public at large.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of transcribing equipment
and have excellent dictation and transcription skills.
- Must have expertise in the use of a personal computer and must
be comfortable accessing online databases.
- Must have excellent organizational and telephone skills.
- Must be able to coordinate with other Court departments.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able
to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements

- High school education or equivalent with emphasis on business/secretarial
or computer courses with knowledge of business English and math.
- Two (2) years' clerical, stenographic or secretarial experience.
- Considerable computer skills.
- Typing skills - minimum 45 wpm.
- Must be able to work without direction and work effectively
with the public and other Court offices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to sit. The employee frequently is required to talk or

and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required
by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
